My 5-step foolproof method to crush your 2021 goals

So here we are again - so quickly, New Years upon us. And this means New Year’s resolutions.

But, did you know that 75% of people quit on their New Years resolutions commitments within 30 days, and only 8% accomplish them!? Pretty grim statistics

And it’s not just exclusive to New Years - so often people start a new diet or exercise routine find they can only stick to it for about 3-4 weeks, then it all gets a bit too hard. So what can we do to make achieving our goals actually doable in 2021? Here are the methods I use with my clients to set goals they are able to crush

Be Super Clear On Your Leverage & How It Will Change Your Life

Leverage is the underpinning, deep & meaningful reason we actually want to achieve what we say we do. When trying to understand your leverage, it’s helpful to picture your life when you’ve achieved your goal. How will life be different from how it is now? How will you feel about yourself? Why is it meaningful to YOU? If you just want to look a certain way but have no personal connection to how life is going to change once you’re there it’s unlikely you’ll stick to that goal - as it doesn’t mean something deeply to you

Set Goals That Include Achievements Outside Than Weight Loss

Set goals that go beyond the aesthetics! So often we think a smaller body will make us happy, but what if it’s bigger self-acceptance? What if it’s more pride in ourselves? What if it’s discovering how strong, dedicated & capable we are when we set our mind to something? These are all examples of positive reinforcement. Purely weight loss goals separate us from our bodies, but when we embrace our bodies and decide to grow together with love - THAT’s when we see explosive momentum!

HAVE FUN!!!

It is sooooo much easier to stick to something when you get something out of it. Whether it be me-time, stress relief, time out of the house or socialising - find the enjoyment. If you’re thinking of doing something purely for weight loss but know you’ll hate every second of it just don’t even bother starting. Just don’t. You’re wasting your time and guaranteeing a win for the “I tried to lose weight but it didn’t work” column.

Get Support

Our human brain will ALWAYS seek the path of least resistance as first preference, UNLESS there is a benefit in doing it otherwise. Engaging support - whether it be a coach, community, family or friends - will increase your likelihood to stay accountable to your plan and do what you need to do, even when your stories are trying to keep you exactly where you are. Find someone that keeps you honest and can remind you of what your leverage is and how life is going to transform.

Be Realistic

YOU know this. I know the “quick fix” is more enticing than facing the fear & stories that have gotten you to a place that you want to make substantial change, but quick fixes rarely have long term change effects. Your body is not the problem - the fear, resentment or sadness you’re not dealing with in your life is. Set realistic targets, and expect that if you’re going to stay committed longer than 3-4 weeks it is going mean small incremental habit changes, and that takes time.

2021 will be an interesting year for us all, that’s undeniable! But it can also be the year you take control of your goals and get to the place you’ve always wanted to be!
