WHERE DOES ALCOHOL FIT INTO YOUR MACROS?

Do you love a boozy brunch or the occasional red wine but don’t know where that fits when it comes to your body composition and keeping your fitness targets in check?

Alcohol does not need to be cut out completely, it actually has an energy value we just need to know the simple calculation to incorporate into our macros…

Alcohol does have an energy value however it has no vitamins, minerals or fiber.. meaning no nutritional value. You can incorporate it by counting it towards something like your carbs or fat. Using simple calculations you can add it into your macros and keep your energy balance and body composition aligned.

Let’s calculate!

*A little tip before we start - calculations should be done before drinking as numbers may be skewed after alcohol consumption 😂

Counting it towards your FAT
Calorie content of your drink ÷ 9

Counting it towards your CARBS
Calorie content of your drink ÷ 4

Let’s say you are at a boozy brunch with the girls, the prosecco is flowing. There are around 123 calories in a glass of prosecco (150mls).
FAT: 123 ÷ 9 = 13.6g 
CARBS: 123 ÷ 4 = 30.75g

Remember balance and moderation are always important. Your daily energy should not be made up of majority alcohol, this will cause an array of issues with your physical and mental health. However if you want to be able to enjoy alcohol in moderation without throwing off your progress - this is how it’s done!
