6 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULDN'T CUT OUT CARBS
I bet if I asked the question do you think you need to cut out carbs in order to see results...majority of people would say yes.
Think about it though, where did we get this information? Is it because we associate carbs with all the yummiest foods so we assume, yummy food means no go!
Well never fear… Carbohydrates are essential to our body’s function!
So PLEASE - don’t cut them out!
Now you might still be thinking well Karen at work said she got really good results going on a no carb/keto diet and that you should too. That’s great for her but we are talking long term sustainable wellness and that means CARBS ARE HERE TO STAY!
So besides carbs being yummy, why SHOULDN’T we cut carbs?!
1. OUR BODY PREFERS TO USE CARBS FOR ENERGY
Carbs are the most efficient way for our body to produce energy. While it can get energy from fats & protein, it’s a far less efficient process. If you want to have good energy levels & feel good in your sessions, the carbs are a must
2. MUSCLE RECOVERY & GROWTH
Glycogen (glucose/carbs) is what the muscles use to function, especially under stress (e.g. training). The body then uses glucose to help replenish stores and grow new muscle tissue! Bye bye DOMS
3. ALL THE FIBRE
Most high fibre foods come from carbs - fruit, veggies, legumes, plants etc. Lots of fibre = happy digestion. Our body NEEDS fibre to ensure it’s functioning properly
4. CARBS ALONE ARE NOT “HIGH CALORIE”
A gram of carbs from fruit is no different to a gram of carb in broccoli. Carbs are not high calorie and are the same calories as protein per gram and about HALF the calories as fat per gram, they are just used by the body in a different way than protein and fats
5. BETTER BRAIN FUNCTION
Did you know that studies have shown our brain needs 120g of carbs for optimal function? You’ll start feeling like you can think clearly and quickly again!
6. BUT ALSO… YES, THEY’RE DELICIOUS!
If you cut carbs you’ll be missing out on some seriously good food!! Fruit, starchy veggies, bread, pasta, rice, pizza, donuts and so many more. And who wants to live a life missing that? It’s a recipe for yoyo weight fluctuations and unsustainability
Understanding nutrition means we know what our body NEEDS & how to create BALANCE to create long term results and the healthiest lifestyle. Yes, getting fit can make us “look good” but imagine doing it in a healthy way where you feel the best you have ever felt! Sorry Karen…
